The War Remnants Museum presents an unflinching, sometimes difficult account of the Vietnam War's civilian toll, essential context for understanding modern Vietnam, and worth two to three hours of unhurried time.
The Cu Chi Tunnels, a network of tunnels used by Viet Cong fighters, are a half-day trip from the city and let visitors crawl through sections themselves, genuinely claustrophobic, and a visceral complement to the museum's exhibits.
Rooftop Bars and the Mekong Delta
The city's skyline has grown fast, and its rooftop bars (Chill Skybar, Social Club) take advantage of it, especially around sunset when the Saigon River picks up the colour of the sky between the towers.
The Mekong Delta, a couple of hours south, offers floating markets, coconut candy workshops, and boat trips through canals lined with fruit orchards, book a smaller group tour to avoid the largest, most crowded floating market boats.
